NVQ & SVQ Information

Vocational Qualifications

The Awarding Body and national accreditation for Scotland is Scottish Qualification Authority.

In their accreditation role, they endorse vocational qualifications that are offered across Scotland, including Scottish Vocational Qualifications and approve Awarding Bodies that wish to grant them. As an Awarding Body, they work with schools, colleges, universities, industry, and government, to provide high quality, flexible and relevant qualifications

To acquire an NVQ/SVQ, the candidate would have to engage in the OSAT (On Site Assessment Training) process. The OSAT process recognises competence and  awards the successful candidate with a Vocational Qualification in the appropriate subject.

A candidate does not have to attend college to acquire an NVQ/SVQ through the OSAT route. An assessor will visit the candidate onsite to assess their practical  competency and knowledge. An Assessor helps candidate build a portfolio of evidence; for example, time sheets, drawings, method statements, risk assessments, witness testimony, delivery notes, photos.
