// Interlay Home / August 2010 'Job of the Month' winner - James Kennedy Paving & Brickwork

Interlay would like to announce that recently new member, James Kennedy Paving & Brickwork, are the winners for August's competition. This project was started 2 years ago, when the team first met the client, who wasn't sure what to do with her back garden. The area was very sloped, cramped and dominated by a large oak tree, right in the centre.

After much discussion, they agreed that the tree should be taken down, giving the team plenty of space to work with. After several issues with the council, the client was successful in getting permission to remove the tree & works could finally commence.

The process began with excavating around 40 tons of soil, until reaching the existing underground drainage pipes, which governed our new paving level. This is also explains the two levels leading to the main patio.

The team erected a new fence and gate, measuring 1m back to the correct boundary line, which opened up the garden dramatically. They also had to remove a brick-built shed, which was quite over powering, and re-built it to the edge of the garden, creating more space.

The materials used were Natural Stone slabs in Lakeland Sandstone, accompanied by Lakeland 100x100mm sets to create the look the client wanted.

James' team were on the job for 4 weeks, from start to finish (not including the two year wait!). New lighting was also installed so that the garden could be enjoyed in the evenings.

Company director, James Kennedy, said that he "would like to thank [my] team for their hard work in creating this garden."

Congratulations again - I guess it's true to say that good things do come to those who wait!
