Congratulations to Europave Ltd for this practical but attractive make over.
Europave Ltd had the challenge of making this Fire Stations drive both practical for heavy vehicles to repeatedly use but also one which allowed water both from rainfall and from the engines themselves to drain away effectively making the driving area as safe as possible! |
To achieve effecient drainage of water Europave decided to use permeable paving which by it's design allows water to drain through the paving effectively into the ground below.
This can be seen here as it is the unique out line of permeable paving which allows water to penetrate through the gaps at the sides of each block and drain into the sub-soil below. |
Another necerssay feature was for water to drain away from the sloping entrance. This was achieved using Keyblocks laid on sharp sand so that the water is able to run straight off into the street drains below. |

The blocks used in this installation are Priora in Brindle over the main yard with a Buff Keyblock around the boundary areas. The sub base consists of fines concrete with a 3-6mm stone bedding layer and the blocks are laid in a 45 degree herringbone style.
3mm gritt was then vibrated into the surface joints which allows the water to penetrate the surface. |
What an amazing practical job for a service the public is reliant on! A big congratulations to Europave Ltd for the wonderfully looking yet practical yard, a job well done. |
